Fort Luton

Fort Luton is a Victorian Fort built in 1876 to help defend Chatham Dockyard from a land attack.

It was involved in the 1907 Chatham Siege Trials, and saw vital roles in both WW1 as an anti-aircraft battery and an embarkment centre for troops on their way to France, and in WW2 the Fort used converted to a secret Gun Operation Centre for the control of Anti-Aircraft guns in the area.

There are two museum's on site where children can see artefacts from the Victorian era through WW1, WW2 up the Cold war era. Children can actively interact with exhibits on our show and tell talks and worksheets on the exhibits. There is a on-site Café, children's playground area and a picnic area with a nearby fish pond with many fish, along with extensive wildlife such as Bird's, Butterflies and Ladybirds with worksheets to assist children with some of the nature found here.
